As promised earlier, I’ve been working on v0.0.4 update for “Home Screens Background Settings” application. It took me awhile longer than expected to finish up this update as this is an major update which brings some additional features and hopefully settles the random unable to copy problem reported by users.
Here is the changelog for v0.0.4:
- change the theme to dark theme
– added a confirmation dialog for resetting all to default
– change back the apply button to restart phone on confirm
– thumbnails on homepage shrink by 10% and added white borders
– jpeg files cant be browse and selected in gallery
– added a image converter (python script) to convert jpeg images to png
– added a new edit page for editing photo before copy
– the edit page include a image preview that is live and the orientation follow the to be set home screen orientation
– added a blur function to the image edit
– added a black mask function to the image edit
– added a menu and a menu item “about”
– updating from previous version doesn’t remove the existing wallpaper starting from this version
– the machanism used in this release for copying background is no longer copy using root priviledge but chown the background files on the meegotouch backgrounds folder to user:users and copy using user’s priviledge, hoping to be more reliable
Please note that you will be prompt for installing additional dependencies when you updating which will install python-imaging package which is used to manipulate those background file.
Know problems are:
- There is a slight lag when you select an image from gallery because it’s converting and copying image to a new and temporary file name.
- There is also a slight lag when you select or reset blur effect and applying the changes in the edit image page as the program needs some time to process the blur image and/or applying the mask and also copy it to the destination directory.
The phone will be automatically restarted once the update is done to eliminate the red background problem.

As this is a testing release, please do test it out and report any bugs/problem by commenting on this post. I’ll try to fix it before we move on to stable release v0.0.5. Hope you enjoying this update

It does not recognize the .png photos. all photos have to be .jpg.
So weird, in my phone the gallery displays both jpg and png files…
I see all of my pictures, but when I choose it, is displayed just black screen.
Think I identified one of the picture not found/copied problems. If the file name has a space like the Home Screens wont apply it. So should use only marks
*like (background 1.png)

Yeah I know, probably it’s my fault, but is really frustrating,I can’t use this fabulous app! I Don’t have the developer mode enabled, I’ve already try all the versions, but no one works on my n9. Can someone help me? Even the latest 004 doesn’t work. Thanks in advice!!
Something seriously strange. When I install it the phone automatically restart the system before the installation finish and the size of the deb file is 0 Kb instead 39 as the download notification said. What is going wrong? Please help me,I think the phone has became a little unstable
Hi, sorry for the late reply. Can you elaborate a little bit further on how you can’t use this app? Does the launcher icon for this app present? Can you start this application? Or you couldn’t select the background in this application? Thanks
Hi the icon is set and the app status normally, evenings is ok, but when I select the picture, even png or jpg whit blur effect or without, the preview remains in black, on the apply button appears the notification that the phone will be restarted but nothing happen, not the reboot neater the background. What’s going wrong? Read up,

I think it’s the aegis problem that blocks this application in your to change ownership and copy the image, which results in the home screens background remain black. I suggest you enable developer mode and try again…

Thanks to poeple like you we can have a phone with all the features a phone these days is supposed to have.
Can you tur it into a settings plugin? Instead on an app, a more suitable place would be under Settings>Applications>Home screen or under Settings>Wallpaper.
…and i think i have a bug.
It all went fine but the backgound on the launcher in landscape (i.e. horizontal) looks stretched and out of place. I have noticed that the status bar also looks larger than usual. Probably the two are related. This is only seen on the launcher, the others are ok.
Has any of you noticed it? Or am i the only one?
